FIFPRO threatens legal action against Kotoko and GFA over Sarfo Taylor’s ban

Legal Director for FIFPRO Mr Roy Vermeer has said that his firm will fight for every player under their jurisdiction to make sure that every player is treated fairy when it comes football.

The Fédération Internationale des Associations de Footballeurs Professionnels (English: International Federation of Professional Footballers), generally referred to as FIFPRO, is the worldwide representative organisation for 65,000 professional footballers.

Former Kotoko player Solomon Sarfo Taylor who is a member of FIFPRO was served with a three year ban by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for falsifying registration documents, leading to the revocation of his player license by the disciplinary committee.

Speaking with Micheal Kofi Oduro on Metro Sports, Mr Vermeer highlighted a few things he thought were not clear when it comes to the banning of the player

‘’We would love to avoid a dispute but how does that work out when ghana does not have a standard contract,” he lamented.

He explained that the circumstances surrounding Sarfo’s case was questionable and bizarre because they are rules from the disciplinary committee that state that every incidence that happened after five should not be looked at again.

‘’Why is this popping up after eight years when the rules says otherwise,” he questioned.

Sarfo’s case has been sent to the appeals court and will be waiting for a positive update.
