Franklin Cudjoe slams Akufo-Addo for jetting off to motivate Black Stars in Qatar

President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has bemoaned President Akufo-Addo traveling to Qatar to motivate the Black Stars players ahead of their group opener against Portugal in the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup.

According to Mr. Cudjoe, it is wrong for the President to embark on a such journey in the wake of the country’s sickening economy.

The Black Stars take on the Portuguese men’s national team today, Thursday, November 24, 2022, at the 974 stadium in Doha.

Ranked the lowest country at the global showpiece, many are anticipating the outcome of the game to determine the Black Stars’ chances of progressing to the next stage.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday evening left Ghana for Qatar ahead of the crucial game.

The President is expected to meet, and motivate the technical team and the playing body prior to the game’s commencement.

But according to the President of IMANI Africa Franklin Cudjoe jetting off to the Black Stars camp was not a prudent decision.

He believes President Akufo-Addo should have resorted to a phone call as the medium of his communication rather than traveling at a point when rising inflation and devaluation of the Ghana currency had plunged the country into unprecedented hardships.

“A phone call would have been enough in a time of economic peril,” Mr. Cudjoe said.
