GFA Congress approves 900% increase in presidential nomination fee

GFA Congress approves 900% increase in presidential nomination fee

The Ghana Football Association (GFA)’s new presidential nomination fee of GHC50,000 has been approved by its Congress.

According to the GFA Elections Committee, the upward adjustment of nomination fees has become necessary due to the high expense of election management.

In a statement on June 24, 2023, the GFA’s General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, announced a significant hike in the nomination cost for Presidential candidates.

The proposed price of GHC50,000 marks a 900% increase over the GHC5,000 charged during the previous elections in 2019.

The GFA cites the increased costs of organizing the elections, such as logistics, transportation, and lodging, as justification for the requirement for the fee increase.

Since these expenses have undoubtedly increased since the previous elections, the GFA has suggested raising the nomination price for the upcoming contest.

The Ghana Football Association commenced its 29th Ordinary Congress in Kumasi on Monday, July 10, 2023.

Addressing the Congress, GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simon Okraku touched on many things relating to the development of football, especially initiatives the association intends to implement at the regional level.

Amongst other things, Mr. Okraku highlighted the GFA’s plan to have a coordinating office in Accra to oversee the work of RFAs, the FA considering giving GH¢100,000 for the purchase of footballs for all regional competitions, and also his administration working to provide pickups for Regional FA chairpersons
