Govt owe Domelevo emoluments nearly 3 years after leaving office — Report

The Government of Ghana still owes Daniel Domelevo nearly three years after he was controversially asked to proceed on a167 days of leave and subsequent retirement.

Mr, Domelevo is owed entitlements including salary arrears.

In a letter dated March 3, 2021, Nana Akufo-Addo, through his secretary, Nana Bediatuo Asante said, “The attention of the President of the Republic has been drawn to records and documents made available to this Office by the Audit Service, that indicate that your date of birth is 1st June 1960, and that in accordance with article 199 (1) of the Constitution, your date of retirement as Auditor-General was 1st June 2020.”

“Based on this information, the President is of the view that you have formally left office,” the letter from the presidency said.

This development followed the presidency ordering the Auditor General to take a167 days of mandatory leave starting from July 1, 2020.

He was retired on March 3, 2021, when his leave was set to expire.

Reports indicate that a correspondence between the Domelevo and the presidency dating November 5, 2021, and November 4, 2022, in which a request for payment of outstanding salary and other entitlements, is made.

Multiple sources claim the Audit Service Board was requested in a letter dated January 30, 2023 to investigate the allegations made by the former Auditor-General and “take the required action as quickly as practical.”
