Fire kills family of three in Abuakwa

A mother and her two girls were killed in a fire that raced through their residence in Abuakwa, Kumasi, on Wednesday morning.

Abigail Manu, 28, Norah Yeboah, 9, and Philipa Yeboah, 6, are the three victims.

The source of the incident is unknown, however, witnesses say they saw the mother hiding her two children from the flames after dousing the flames.

Two of the five people who were inside the residence at the time of the incident were unharmed.

Community security volunteers who arrived initially said they were drawn to the site by a loud noise coming from the house at about 3:15 a.m.

Stephen, the commander of the volunteers, reveals that their effort to break into the room was thwarted due to the security enforcement of her door.

“She was robbed two months ago, and another occurred this week. So she had upgraded the security behind the door,” he explained.

“We broke into the house from the back but the flames were too intense for us to enter,” he narrated.

The fire was put out by a neighbor’s pump machine.

After the volunteers and residents had extinguished the flame, the fire department arrived.
