NPP elects Ernest Yaw Anim as PC for Kumawu by-election

Ernest Yaw Anim, a former District Chief Executive, has been elected as the Sekyere-Kumawu Parliamentary Candidate on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

By defeating his rivals, including Dr. Aboagye Dacosta of the Ghana Health Service, who received 27 votes, and Kwame Appiah Kubi, who received 10, Osei Hwere Bempa, 5, Ama Serwaah 181, and 10 votes each, he was able to garner 194 votes.

A total of 420 delegates from 25 electoral districts met on Sunday at the Philip Basoah Community Center in Besoro to cast their votes.

The Electoral Commission oversaw the tight security as the poll got underway at 11:40 a.m.

There were five candidates running for the parliamentary position: Ama Serwaah, Dr. Da-costa Aboagye, Ernest Yaw Anim, Kwame Appiah Kubi, and Osei Bempah Hwereh.

Opanin Yaw Baah, Lawyer Edward Kofi Osei, and Philip Banor, three contenders, withdrew from the competition.

Nominations will be accepted from May 2 through May 5, 2023, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, at the Commission’s Sekyere Kumawu District Office.
