The tariffs education by the Public Utility Regulatory Commission has become necessary following the recent unsual quarterly upward adjustment review of the utility tariffs in the country which has some uproar among the among consumers.

Educating the students on contributing factors that has been the reason for recent tariff review which being the high exchange rate, high inflation and fuel price hike, the Executive Secretary of PURC, Dr. Ishmael Ackah said the recent quarter tariff has become necessary for the utility companies to be able to survive and improve on their operations to serve their customers better.

He, however, revealed that hydro power is the most cheapest source of power but it has become difficult to produce even 15% of what Akosombo is currently producing due to the fact that, the source being the water has been polluted by galamsey activities.

The Vice Chancellor of the Koforidua Technical University, Professor David Kofi Essuman also called on PURC to ensure that, the utility providers on quality of their service and also appealed for educational institutions to be considered in their tariff reviews since they use more power in running the institutions.
