Sky train project: “We haven’t done the one on the ground yet but we are in the air” — Alex jabs gov’t

Former Minister of Health under the John Dramani Mahama administration, Alex Segbefia has expressed his disappointment in the outcome of the Sky Train project.

According to him, “the perceived impunity clause that exist for some of the activities of government is worrying.”

“We paid two billion [cedis]. Without parliamentary approval, without cabinet approval? What was the legal advice that the Attorney General conducted?” he quizzed on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday, July 19.

Recounting the many questions that were raised from the onset, he said, “When this project first was mentioned, many sceptics came out and said it is not the time, it is not doable, especially because of the cost that had been put out, how were there going to fund it? What were the issues?”

However, these questions were met with “The normal responses from the NPP” which is “We know what we are doing, things will be put in place. etc.,” Alex shared.

In 2018, the Akuffo-Addo-led government promised Ghanaians of constructing a Sky Train that was intended to provide transportation to about 380,000 people daily.

This has, however, been met with its premature death as questions about how a $2 million payment have been made already to a company with no license to operate.
