Stop the politics and complete the New Edubiase Stadium — Abdul Salam Yakubu

Stop the politics and complete the New Edubiase Stadium — Abdul Salam Yakubu

Owner and bankroller of New Edubiase FC, Abdul Salam Yakubu, has bemoaned the government’s delay in constructing the New Edubiase Sports Stadium.

The New Edubiase Constituency lacks a decent pitch for sporting activities due to perceived partisan politics in the execution of the government project.

President John Dramani Mahama, during his tenure, cut sod to kick-start the state-of-the-art Stadium in 2015.

However, the stadium, which was thought to be 40% complete, was abandoned when the New Patriotic Party took over in 2017 and it became a haven for local criminals.

In 2020, about 5 months to the election, the people of New Edubiase heard the contractor was coming to the site, they thought he would continue the existing project which was 40% complete.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, a new site was earmarked, and allocated the same contractor to construct a different sports complex altogether.

By November 2020, the 2nd project also stalled.

Hosting the Eid al-Fitr edition of Original 91.9FM’s Super Sports Show, the outspoken club administrator expressed concern about the current state of the two stadia at Edubiase.

“There’s no single park at New Edubiase”.

“They have turned the construction of the stadium into politics.”

“When NDC was in power, they started the construction of a new stadium, unfortunately, they couldn’t complete it “.

“However, when NPP took over, instead of completing what had already begun, they decided to start the construction of a new stadium which they’ve currently abandoned”.

“The downfall of New Edubiase can be partly attributed to the lack of proper home venue”.

Despite the allocation of approximately GH¢4 million for the project, which was intended to improve sporting activities in the area when completed, the facility has been abandoned for the past six years.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif says the project will be completed.

He said it will be repackaged and handed over to a new contractor.
