Supreme Court upholds decision to expunge Quayson’s name from Parliament

James Gyakye Quayson’s Review Application, which asked the Supreme Court to overturn its May 17, 2023 decision ordering Parliament to remove his name from records pertaining to Parliament, was dismissed by the court.

The nine-person review panel, led by Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, declared that “the application for review is totally dismissed as without merit.”

The judgment issued on May 17 and its orders, including the directive to have his records wiped, remain in effect as a result of the Supreme Court’s majority ruling.

James Quayson’s parliamentary status was pronounced null, void, and illegal by a seven-member panel of the supreme court on May 17 of this year, which was presided over by Justice Jones Victor Dotse, who is now retired.

The supreme court additionally ordered parliament to seal Michael Ankomah Ninfah’s parliamentary records in its ruling on that application, which was brought by the plaintiff.
