Education Ministry summons Adisadel College headmaster over viral assault video

Deputy Minister of Education, John Ntim Fordjour, has summoned the headmaster of Adisadel College and the Regional Director of Education to deliberate on issues pertaining to the assault that occurred between two final-year students at the school premises.

Although suspensions and sanctions have been meted out to persons involved, the Deputy Minister of Education says the issue requires further investigations and not just exchanges of reports here and there.

Prior to that, the deputy Minister revealed that the Director General of Ghana Education Service, Dr Eric Nkansah “had taken a lot of pragmatic steps in apprising himself with the situation and giving directives that are very much sound.”

However, he has called on parents to remain calm.

“We want to assure the general public that if your child is in a boarding school in Ghana, you must feel safe as a parent at home, knowing that we have put in place the right, positive, and conducive environment that supports the learning of your child, that supports the child to thrive, not under fear, bullying, harassment or any kind of assault,” he said on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on Tuesday morning.

In a viral video, a student of the Adisadel College in Cape student can be seen locking the arms of the victim and forcefully hitting his face against a metal bed, resulting in profuse bleeding below the victim’s right eye in a dormitory.

The reason for the brawl is currently unknown.

Meanwhile, the management of the school in a statement said the two students who are both in their final year have been sanctioned.
