Team Bawumia Launches Tech Campaign

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, known as Team Bawumia, has resorted to the use of technology in its electoral campaigns to get the Vice President elected as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 general election.

Team Bawumia has created a website, mobile app, and USSD digital platform to engage with supporters and stakeholders as part of its campaign efforts.

The creation of a unique calling code, *202#, a website (www.bawumia.com), and USSD allow supporters to pay their quota to the Bawumia Campaign as well as interact and follow his campaign closely.

According to the team, the project attempts to capitalise on Ghana’s expanding mobile phone penetration, where nearly everyone has access to a phone.

Team Bawumia’s creative approach aims to mobilise support and resources for its campaign by leveraging the power of technology.

Individuals can use these sites to stay up to date on the latest news, videos, and activities related to the Bawumia Campaign.

“We recognise the importance of technology in today’s world,” a member of Team Bawumia said of the digital campaign.

“We can communicate with our supporters and engage them more interactively by exploiting these digital platforms.

“It enables us to reach a larger audience and promote Vice President Bawumia’s vision and agenda,” he added.

The digital campaign is consistent with Ghana’s political landscape’s overall shift toward digitalisation. With the increased use of the internet and mobile phones, political parties are increasingly relying on digital tools to engage people and successfully communicate their messages, he said.

He noted that, “Team Bawumia hopes that through launching the dialing code and other digital platforms, it will be able to mobilise support and distribute the campaign message.”
