Unemployed Allied Health Professionals seek government Intervention

The Coalition of Unemployed Allied Health Professionals in Ghana has embarked on a campaign to draw attention to their predicament.

The group in a press release said despite numerous letters and engagements with government officials since 2023, the outcome has consistently been promises of imminent postings.

The coalition, comprising Medical Laboratory Scientists, Community Mental Health Workers, Disease Control Officers, and various other skilled professionals, highlights the stark reality of being trained, qualified, and licensed yet unable to secure employment for up to five years.

“It is imperative for the government to acknowledge the predicament of trained Allied Health professionals who are currently being compelled to remain at home and renew their PINs annually without being able to utilize it. We therefore wish to let all Ghanaians know through the media that, we have allied health professionals who for about 5years now are still unemployed in the House,” the statement noted.

These professionals, equipped with expertise in crucial areas such as health promotion, disease control, and medical records management, find themselves stuck at home, renewing their professional licenses annually without the opportunity to practice.

The group therefore is calling upon the Ministry of Finance to grant financial clearance for their employment, while also appealing to the Ministry of Health to open their portals for job applications.

“We therefore call on Ministry of Finance to grant us financial clearance, Ministry of Health  along with other pertinent agencies, to open their portal to the Allied Health Professionals who have completed school and their mandatory national service and successfully

passed their licensure exams since the year 2019. So that skills, knowledge, and resources used in training us do not go useless”

The group also emphasizes the urgency of the situation, urging government agencies to acknowledge their plight and take concrete steps to address the issue of unemployment among allied health professionals.

As the coalition amplifies its message through media channels, it hopes to garner public support to draw meaningful action from government authorities. With their collective voice, they aim to ensure that the talents and potential of allied health professionals do not go to waste, advocating for a system that provides opportunities for employment and utilization of their valuable skills in improving healthcare delivery across the country.
