2024 Budget :Palgrave Boakye-Danquah hints of legacy budget to revive economy

Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the government’s spokesperson for governance and security, has hinted that the 2024 budget will roll out pragmatic policies that revive the economy from the grappling effect of the current crisis.

He maintains that there has been some amount of significant improvement in the economy.

“The 2024 budget will contain policies directly aimed at tackling these vulnerabilities. The government is aware of the enormity of the challenges we face. We are aware that lives and livelihoods need to be protected,”Palgrave Boakye-Danquah told Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Accra-based Original TV.

The 2024 budget is highly anticipated because of Ghana’s current economic crisis and negotiations with the International Monetary Fund for support.

According to him, the country made some good gains in the last three years prior to the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, which nearly brought the country’s economy to its knees.

He said although the COVID-19 pandemic greatly affected the country’s economy, government through its good policies is restoring the economy and building a more resilient one. The resilient economy, he noted, will be anchored on the gains made before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.

He said although many nations are still grappling with the effects of the pandemic, the good approach that the government took, has made it easier for people to go about their normal business in the country.

He noted that until the emergence of the pandemic, Ghana had become the preferred choice and destination for tourists due to government’s good policies, which were yielding positive returns.

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is scheduled to present the government’s 2024 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

Ahead of the presentation, there have been calls for the government to significantly reduce its expenditure to rescue the ailing economy.
