67th Independence Day: NDC calls for renewed commitment to addressing economic challenges

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging solemn reflection on the country’s journey amidst ongoing economic challenges especially as Ghana marks its 67th Independence Day.

The NDC in a statement, highlights concerns over the economic landscape under the current NPP government, citing issues such as mounting debts, unemployment, poverty, and corruption.

“Over the past seven years under the NPP government, Ghana has faced an economic nightmare punctuated by strangulating debts, erosion of disposable income, high levels of unemployment, poverty, inequality, and corruption,” the statement noted.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, to commemorate Ghana’s 67th Independence Anniversary.

The statement underscores the need for accountability and a shift towards policies that prioritize citizens welfare and inclusive growth, adding that with the leadership of John Mahama, the NDC pledges a commitment to building a prosperous and equitable Ghana, focusing on job creation, economic stimulation, and overall improvement of living standards.

“Looking ahead, we are confident that under the leadership of HE John Mahama, the next NDC government will be committed to building the Ghana envisioned by our forefathers a nation of prosperity, equality, and opportunity for all. We will implement policies that create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and improve the lives of all Ghanaians”

It further explained that the vision for Ghana’s future is to focus on the restoration of hope and confidence among its people, drawing upon the sacrifices of past generations.

The statement also called on Ghanaians to remember the sacrifices of those who fought for independence, while rallying every citizen to recommit to ideals of freedom, justice, and equality.

“As we commemorate this special day, let us remember the sacrifices of our forebears and recommit ourselves to the ideals of freedom, justice, and equality. Let us resolve to resist and break the yoke of the oppressor the yoke of deception, of irresponsibility, and of prioritizing breaking the 8 ahead of breaking poverty and underdevelopment”
