Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai urges prompt medical attention to combat breast cancer

Founder of Breast Care International, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, is passionately calling upon both women and men who detect breast lumps to immediately seek medical assistance, aiming to prevent the perilous consequences of late-stage breast cancer detection.

Alarming statistics reveal that nearly 70 percent of Ghanaian women diagnosed with breast cancer are already in advanced stages of the disease, primarily due to insufficient awareness, resulting in reduced treatment efficacy and high mortality rates.

Despite the common perception of breast cancer as a predominantly female affliction, men too occasionally fall victim to this disease.

Dr. Wiafe-Addai emphasized this critical issue during her address at the 2023 Breast Cancer Walk launch, urging individuals to prioritize medical attention when they detect unusual lumps in their breasts.

Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth Sackey, re-echoed this sentiment by discouraging women from seeking help from spiritual leaders and herbalists, but rather rely on accredited health centers for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Furthermore, speakers at the event, including the Chief of Igbos in Ghana, His Royal Majesty Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu called upon pastors and churches to redirect a portion of their tithes towards health initiatives like the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

He stressed the significance of collective efforts to improve citizens’ health and save lives.

He commended Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai’s remarkable initiative and encouraged others to join this noble cause. Breast Care International also called on corporate bodies to come on board and support the course.
