Family accuses Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital of Medical negligence and extortion after 17-year-old boy’s death

A family is grieving and seeking answers after their 17-year-old son, Nana Adu, died at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital due to alleged medical negligence.

The family claims that medical staff administered the wrong medication, leading to the boy’s death, and also accuses them of extortion during his hospitalization.

On the night of April 24, 2024, a few family members had a disagreement with health workers over delays in treatment, and shortly after, the boy was rushed to the facility. He died about an hour later. The father, Daniel Haditor, alleges that a nurse realized the mistake after nearly three bottles of the wrong medication had been administered, and his son showed signs of instability.

The family stormed the hospital, demanding answers, and subjected some medical officers to physical attacks before police intervention. The medical superintendent, Dr. Apetogbor Dzedegbe, claims the staff did their best to sustain the deceased, but the family is calling for an independent investigation into the matter. The Awutu Senya East Municipal Health Services has yet to comment on the issue.

The family’s accusations include wrongful administration of medication, extortion by medical staff, delays in treatment and lack of accountability and transparency

The incident has raised concerns about the quality of care at the hospital and the need for accountability and transparency in the healthcare system.
