Forestry Commission trains residents on bush fire prevention

The Forestry Commission of Ghana has trained about one hundred residents of the West Gonja Municipality in the Savannah Region on the causes and prevention of bush fire.

The one day training dubbed Anti Bushfire Campaign under the theme: Bush Fire Prevention For the Conservation of Our Wildlife Resources was held at the Damongo Community Center.

Addressing the participants , the Municipal Chief Executive of the West Gonja Municipality Hon Musah Kusubari applauded the Forestry Commission for the initiative.

Hon Kusubari tasked the participants at the anti bushfire to take the training seriously as that was the only way to prevent bushfires that lead to the loss of lives and properties.

For her part, the head of corporate affairs and media relations Joyce Ofori Kwaro said the campaign was aimed at preventing incessant bush fires in the midst of the harmattan season.

Madam Joyce lamented the rate of rampant wild fires caused out of negligence of by some residents.

She emphasized that the laws of the country would leave no stone unturned in order to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of bush fires.

The participants pledged to do their outmost best to halt incessant bush fires in the municipality.
