Four wounded over Lungni chieftaincy dispute

Four persons have sustained gunshot injuries after a gun battle between two Konkomba factions at Lungni, a community in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region over the Lungni chieftaincy.

The disturbance ensued after the regent of Lungni granted kola to a Konkomba leader in order for him to be enskinned as the chief of the Konkombas in Lungni.

This development infuriated another Konkombas clan who was opposed to the choice.

The Binyam and Naamuhi clans are at odds.

The Nanung chief of Lungni enskinned the Naamuhi clan as the Konkomba chief of Lungni, which the Binyam clan opposes, culminating in the shooting incident on Thursday evening.

According to Metro TV’s Northern Region correspondent, Baba this has brought about unrest in the community.

Meanwhile, a joint team of police and military have been deployed to the Lungni community.

They have also requested that the town remain calm.
