Galamsey Still Exist In Ghana; Help Me Fight It – President Akufo-Addo Appeals

President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has admitted that illegal mining popularly known as galamsey is still prevalent in the country despite the numerous effort of the government.

The President made this admission when he was speaking at Natural Resource Stakeholders Dialogue in Accra.

According to President Akufo-Addo, even though some levels of success have been chalked in the fight against the menace, the illegality still remains prevalent across the country.

He further admitted that the practice still remains an existential threat. He says the fight against illegal mining can be won if all Ghanaians get involved urging them not to rest until the menace is ceased.

“Even though a lot has been achieved in this area between 2017 and 2021, illegal small-scale mining remains a challenge and continues to pose a threat to our very survival. But we cannot rest while these illegalities still persist,” President Akufo-Addo noted.
