Going back to school was strategic but I did it to fulfil a promise I made to my dad — Amerado

Multiple award-winning rapper, Amerado, born Derrick Sarfo Kantanka has disclosed that his return to the classroom was strategical and that certain factors influenced this new move in his life.

Speaking on Entertainment Review on Metro TV, the ‘Yetee Nsem’ curator highlighted his poor background and his mother’s inability to afford his higher education fees as reasons for his delayed university education.

“The desire to further my tertiary education was due to a promise I made to my dad that I was going to finish my tertiary education no matter what,” he added.

The ‘Abotr3’ composer added that his return to school, precisely the University of Ghana, Legon brought about a lot of mix feelings, and he wished at a point he wasn’t picked by the school to further his education but unfortunately, he was offered admission.

“My team was very supportive in this time there kept encouraging me to forge ahead and also remember that been in the school will get the student base in terms of music and also get something aside from music because it is always going to be about music,” Amerado narrated.

Furthermore, the rapper added that it wasn’t a walk in the park combining music and education, but he had to adjust and it’s been good so far.

When tertiary institutions reopen for the next academic year the Kumasi native rapper would be in Level 200.

Asked why he’s pursuing Political Science as a course and not any other entertainment-related courses, Amerado said the university gave him that course but he was quick to add that it’s been revealing.

“Trust me, I chose Psychology but was given Political Science and I have gotten to understand that the music is politics. It’s all about the struggle for power and I believe if you able to do what the people want, win souls and its about the struggle to be the best or at the top and that is politics,” he expressed.

Currently, the award-winning rapper is on a media tour for his new song Kweku Ananse which is a blend of the old folklore story telling. The song is available for streams and download on all digital music outlets.
