Fire razes several shops at CMB

A blazing fire swept through a portion of CMB, behind Kantamanto in Accra, completely destroying several stores and commodities worth millions of Ghana cedis on Sunday, September 17.

It is immediately unknown what caused the incident, which broke out at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) firefighters rushed to the scene to salvage the situation unfortunately, despite their prompt response fire had already spread to multiple establishments.

The fire’s site had a number of flammable items, according to ADO2 Alex Nartey, a GNFS Public Relations Officer.

Several of the market’s vendors expressed their annoyance and dissatisfaction over the situation.

A lot of them claimed to have lost everything.

The Ghana National Fire Service (advises retailers to exercise caution while using electrical equipment and to avoid storing combustible goods in their stores.

This is the CMB market’s second significant fire in recent years. A fire destroyed approximately 200 stores at the market in 2020.

Meanwhile, investigations are presently ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.
