I’ll go to Police and take my GH₵2.5m – Menzgold CEO

Nana Appiah Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, has said that he will return to the Ghana Police and reclaim the GH₵2.5 million that was delivered to them for customer distribution.

Popularly known as NAM 1 said that the money was not meant to be deposited by the police at the Bank of Ghana.

“The intent was not to give money to the police to distribute. We went to the police because we wanted security. The agreement with the police was to have them provide a desk where we could distribute the money,” he told Accra-based Starr FM.

“I am surprised the money has been deposited at the Bank of Ghana. I will go back to the police and ask them to give the money back to me because that was not the arrangement we had,” he added.

Nana Appiah Mensah gave the police GH₵2.5 million on Friday, October 20, 2023, at the suggestion of the Office of the Attorney-General.

The Police administration said in a statement on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, that the aforementioned sum had been placed for the Court’s consideration in the Police Exhibit account at the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

The Police claim that the money is being investigated in connection with petitions against Nana Appiah Mensah that MenzGold Ghana Company Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Limited received from certain of their clients. The cases are presently pending before the Accra High Court.

The statement added, “We would like to state that the court would determine the decision on the disbursement of the money.”

Whether the police comply with Nana Appiah Mensah’s request and give him back the money is still up in the air.
