John Mahama shocked over $1m, €300k found in Sanitation Minister’s home

Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over the discovery of large sums of money, including one million dollars, €300,000, and millions of Ghana Cedis, in the house of a minister of state within the Akufo-Addo government.

Taking to Twitter, Mr. Mahama criticized the act as ‘scandalous’ and deemed it an inappropriate behavior for public office holders. The incident came to light after the alleged theft of the said amount and currencies from the house of the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, and her husband, purportedly by their house helps.

As a consequence, two house helps of the minister are currently facing prosecution before an Accra Circuit Court in connection with the incident. Mr. Mahama’s tweet questioned the reasons for holding such substantial amounts of foreign currency at home, even if lawfully acquired, and urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to set a positive example for other public office holders in his administration.
