Kan Dapaah sues Barker-Vormawor over $1m bribery allegation

Albert Kan Dapaah, the Minister of National Security, has sued the convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, over claims that the National Security and other government officials attempted to buy his silence in 2021.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor after he and others were released by the police on September 22, 2023, after being arrested for organizing the #OccupyJorlorlobiHouse protest in Accra in violation of a restraining order issued by the police.

According to him, the National Security and other government officials met him in 2021 and offered him money to supposedly silence him.

He alleged that he was offered $1 million and other juicy positions in government in order to stop this activism which was supposedly denting the image of the Akufo-Addo administration.

Among other things, court documents available to Metro TV reveal the National Security Minister wants the court to determine that Barker-Vormawor’s statements are defamatory.

Furthermore, he requests the “recovery of the sum of Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GHC10,000,000.00) as General Damages including Aggravated and/or Exemplary Damages for Defamation for the words uttered by Defendant.”

Mr. Kan Dapaah is also seeking an apology and retraction of the allegedly defamatory comments and a perpetual injunction restraining Barker-Vormawor from repeating similar or other defamatory words against the Plaintiff.
