Kintampo North MP leads tree planting in Bono East Region

Hon. Joseph Kwame Kumah, joined other dignitaries at the Jema Senior High School to mark this year’s Green-Ghana program. He was accompanied by the Deputy Bono East regional secretary, Mr. Isaac Donkor.

In a brief speech, the Hon. MP commended the government for continuing with the Green-Ghana program instituted by the erstwhile NDC government under the Prof. Mills-Mahama-led administration.

It would be recalled that this policy was spearheaded by then Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Collins Dauda, which was launched at Ofinso Abofoa in the Ashanti Region and locally at Yefri in Kintampo South where trees were planted that year. This particular continuity by the NPP administration is laudable hence the Hon. MP’s commendation of it.

He further proposed for the Kintampo Forestry Directorate to now concentrate on water bodies including the Ayako River, Punpun Abuntrubi, Wurukwai, etc to protect them from perennial felling of trees.

He added that prioritizing mangoes plantation should be on the drawing board since Kintampo which was known for bumper harvest in mangoes is no longer the case now.

Most mango trees have been felt for building purposes and charcoal which is bad. “Mangoes those days aided a lot of youth economically to pay their school fees he asserted”.

Attached are some pictures and videos from the event.
