Mahama’s 24-hour economy is a scam, complete deceit – Richard Ahiagbah

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has described the 24-economic policy by the NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama as a “scam” and “complete deceit”.

He has asked for fiscal policy to back the proposal that the main opposition party has purveyed to be the game changer to eradicate unemployment in the country.

Appearing on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on Thursday, February 22, 2024, Mr. Ahiagbah punched gaping holes in the 24-economic proposal while stating categorically that it is not feasible.

“Where is your fiscal policy?” He quizzed and continued, which “Measures they have put in place so we can vet that it can get you there”

“The last time you were in government your government was axing all over the place. All they do is taxing from head to toe for 24 hours and when we came we repelled them.,” he said.

Mr. Ahiagbah insists the NDC and its flagbearer John Mahama have no policy to make a case that they are capable of running a 24-hour economy when given power.

He, therefore, argues that Mr. Mahama is just throwing promises out to win power but he cannot deliver them and Ghanaians must be aware of his deceptive ways.

24-hour economy

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the objective behind his proposed 24-hour economy initiative is to enable businesses to operate three shifts per day.

He says the government and private sector will collaborate to achieve this goal.

“The 24-hour economy is designed to create new employment opportunities, particularly for young people, address unemployment, and enhance living standards in Ghana.”

Mahama said his government will enact new laws to support businesses operating a 24-hour system in seven days (24/7), including labour laws and tax incentives.

“To assist companies, there will be favourable tax policies, stimulus packages, and financial assistance available for specific industries including agro-processing and manufacturing,” Mr Mahama posted.

“Buying local products and services will be government’s top priority, and measures will be implemented to ensure the smooth operation of the 24-hour economy.”

My objective is to create a 24-hour economy in Ghana by enabling businesses to operate in three shifts. This will help Ghana become self-sufficient and focus on export-oriented growth.
