The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng has welcomed the move by the National Peace Council to collaborate with the Ministry to reduce Chieftaincy disputes to the barest minimum.

According to him, although the Bawku case is being handled by the National House of Chiefs and the Asantehene, having the National Peace Council on Board to support is a step in the right direction.

He noted that the National House of Chiefs and the Ministry are working on ensuring that the Judicial Committees are in full force.

The Minister made these comments when he joined the Board Members of the National Peace Council at their Board Meeting in Accra.

He was of the view that Chiefs need to be given the Authority due them so they can handle their cases as well as see to the development of their communities.

He said there were a lot of responsibilities that the Chiefs can handle but the resources are limited and it is for this reason that the Ministry is working on establishing a Chieftaincy Fund which is aimed at providing the Chiefs with the needed resources to discharge their roles and responsibilities.

The Board was hopeful that government will soon fish out the individuals who were supporting the peasant farmers with arms, noting that this will help find solution to the problems in Bawku, the Upper East Region.

They also called for mechanism that will engage all stakeholders to come up with a lasting solution to the long term issues.
