NACOC Bill: I believe regulatory issues can be addressed — Edudzi Tamakloe

Legal Practitioner, Edwin Edudzi Tamakloe is optimistic that the regulatory issues of the Narcotics Bill 2023 will be dealt with.

Following the passage of the Narcotics Bill 2023, the debate of whether or not the prospects of the bill can be enforced is one widely discussed.

In addressing the importance of enforcements, Edwin Tamakloe has highlighted some challenges confronting the fight against narcotics.

He noted that in the past the police and other security services discovered these illegal narcotic farming activities were done in the middle of farms with other plants such as cassava and maize surrounding it.

He tasked Ghanaians to cooperate and comply with the laws of enforcements and compliances that come with it.

“All of us must ensure that the various skill set at the Narcotics Control Commission will be enhanced [with] proper training because you cannot do this without the cooperation of the standards authority,” he noted.

The Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2023 has been officially been passed by Parliament.

When assented by the President, Ghana will become one of the few countries to allow cannabis farming.

The bill empowers the Interior Ministry to authorize licenses for the cultivation of cannabis, specifically strains containing less than 0.3% THC, for industrial or medicinal applications.
