NDC demands resignation of Attorney General Godfred Dame

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, is under pressure from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly failing to bring charges against those mentioned in a report by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng on illegal mining in Ghana.

The Attorney-General’s Office argued that the accusations made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister for Mnvironment, Science, Technology, and Innovation and a former chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), in his report are unfounded and do not provide enough evidence to bring charges against the named individuals. This was followed by the NDC’s call for action.

The Attorney General’s remark comes after an examination of a police docket about the claims made in Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s 36-page study titled “Report on the work of IMCIM so far and the way forward.”

Sammy Gyamfi, the party’s National Communications Officer, called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor to open a comprehensive probe into the situation while speaking at the Moment of Truth Series at the NDC Headquarters in Accra.

“The NDC hereby demands the immediate resignation of the Attorney-General for his dubious attempt to cover up serious crimes that have been perpetrated against the state by corrupt government and NPP officials who are destroying our water bodies and forests through illegal mining.”

“More importantly, we wish to call on the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Adjabeng to expedite his investigations into this matter and to immediately prosecute all those found culpable,” he stated.
