North Tongu MP denies allegations of receiving government scholarships

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has vehemently denied allegations suggesting he had applied and benefited from government scholarship.

Mr. Ablakwa in a Facebook post, expressed dismay over the circulation of what he termed as a “malicious and fake” list by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation Foreign Scholarship program. He called on the public to disregard the list and condemned journalists who published it without verifying its authenticity.

“I have never applied for nor been a beneficiary of a government scholarship of any kind”

“I therefore implore the general public to treat with utter contempt the deplorable circulation of this malicious and fake GNPC Foundation Foreign Scholarship list”

The North Tongu MP also criticized journalists who involved in recirculation of the said list, stating that he had previously held them in high esteem but was disappointed by their lack of adherence to basic ethical and professional journalistic standards.

He demanded retractions and apologies from those who propagated the false information.

“It is most condemnable that some journalists I hitherto had enormous respect for would proceed to further publish this defamatory list without conducting the basic ethical and professional journalistic requirement of verification”

“I hope these journalists and other known persons engaged in this odious conduct will immediately retract and apologize”

He announced that he had informed his legal team about the matter and hinted at potential legal action against those responsible, pledging to disclose his next steps in the coming days as he seeks to address the situation.

“May I add that I have consequently brought these publications to the attention of my lawyers and would give an indication of my next steps in the coming days”
