NPP Communicator Slams Gov’t For Introduction Of New Taxes

Mr. Andrew Appiah Danquah, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, has chastised the country’s lawmakers for always seeking the simplest solution to manage the economy.

He asserted that increasing taxes on the average citizen is the simplest path to pursue hardship on Ghanaians.

Mr. Andrew Appiah  Andrew Appiah Danquah made this statement in wake of the government’s intention to enact three additional levies in an effort to raise money.

He voiced his disapproval of the three revenue Acts’ enactment and discussed how they would affect businesses.

”These revenue taxes will create problems for the businessmen in the country, businessmen may not be able to employ under this current tax regime,”Mr. Andrew Appiah  Andrew Appiah Danquah exclusively told Kwaku Owusu Adjei(Patoo) on Adwenekasa on Accra-based Original FM 91.9.

” These new revenue taxes will slow the growth of the economy going forward, “It is worrying how leaders [have] kept proffering short-term solutions to the country’s problems,” he said.

Parliament has passed the three tax bills which were tabled before it as part of government’s measures to generate more revenue.

The bills namely the Income Tax Amendment Bill, The Excise Duty Amendment Bill and the Growth and Sustainability Amendment Bill were passed on Friday evening.

Earlier, the government had stated that the revenue bills are needed to help the government complete processes for the about $3 billion IMF deal as well as improve the revenue situation of the country.
