Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu steps down as Majority Leader

Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has stepped down from his position.

He resigned at a meeting convened by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra on Thursday, February 21.

This is expected to pave the way for Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin to assume the now-vacant role.

The NPP leadership in Parliament has been embroiled in crisis as there was rumour that changes had been made but was denied by the First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu on Monday.

Following his resignation, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has been named by the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the head of his Election 2024 policy and manifesto team.

The Committee is responsible for undertaking a holistic review of the governing party’s 2016 and 2020 manifestos and engaging all relevant stakeholders to come up with a pragmatic 2024 manifesto.

Mensah-Bonsu has approximately 23 years of experience in the NPP parliamentary leadership levels. He held the positions of chief whip for four years, deputy leader for four years, and majority leader for fifteen years and two months throughout this time.
