President Akufo-Addo Slams NDC Over Tribal, Religious Sentiments

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the current flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has been the target of recent tribal and religious remarks made by members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President John Dramani Mahama. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has responded to those remarks.

President Akufo-Addo, like his predecessor John Mahama, has stated that the much-heralded transformation is misleading. He further stated that the NDC had nothing positive to offer the country, particularly in the effort to strengthen multiparty democracy, diversity, peace, and unity of purpose. As a result, he advised Ghanaians to be wary of them due to their strong tribal and religious affinities.

At the last week’s opening of an e-library project in Kumasi, President Akufo-Addo made this statement to the chiefs and people of Bantama.

He said that when choosing leaders for their country, Ghanaians should exercise caution. adding “My advice to the electorate is that they reject such people as we get close to the 2024 general election.”

He said “What matters most is that we give the nod to leaders whose competency, track record and integrity cannot be doubted. We cannot entrust the destiny of the nation into the hands of incompetent leaders to the detriment of our sustainable growth’’.

In addition, President Akufo-Addo questioned the veracity of former President John Dramani Mahama’s purported metamorphosis.

He contended that Mahama’s failures during his prior presidency made the transition that was purported to have occurred untrue.

“You [Mahama] failed when you were offered the opportunity and now you are claiming to be a changed person. What shows you are indeed a changed person? It is pure deception and we won’t agree,” he teased.
