Two traders in Tamale remanded for leaving phone on loudspeaker, wearing hat in courtroom

Two persons were remanded into police custody for 2 weeks by the Tamale District Court for contempt of court on Monday, November 13.

The first person, Chairman Salifu was remanded for not putting his phone on silence before going into the courtroom, whilst the other person was remanded for wearing his hat into the courtroom.

This comes after traders at Tamale Central Market appeared before the district court judge over disagreement between the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and traders at the Central Market over a portion of land in the market being sold out to a private developer.

Speaking to Metro News off camera, the unhappy traders registered their displeasure at the judge.

They said the judge, Amadu Isifu was speaking big grammar in the courtroom and that he should’ve known not everyone understands the colonial language, the reason for which the warning should have been communicated in the local language, especially when you are dealing with market women and men.

They are therefore calling for the immediate release of the two people remanded.

According to them, the behaviour of the judge is likely to put Tamale into chaos as he was the same judge who handled the tramadol issue leading to the shooting of many people by police at the premises of the court.

Metro News contacted the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly for comments.
