BoG Picketing: Level-Minded Persons Won’t Rubbish NDC’s Claims – Staunch NPP Man

Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Obiri Boahen has sided with the NDC’s position on the unprecedented loss recorded by the Bank of Ghana for the 2022 Financial Year.

According to the 2022 audited accounts of the Central Bank, BoG reported a loss of over GHC 60 billion. The bank mainly attributed the loss to the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program which was a condition for securing an IMF program.

Other issues uncovered by the report include the controversial $250 million new Bank of Ghana headquarters. According to the bank, the structural integrity of the current headquarters is threatened because of the earthquake prone nature of Accra. In addition, the Governor of the Bank further justifies that no procurement breaches were made in their attempt to construct the new office.

Following the publication of the report, the opposition NDC has bemoaned what they describe as mismanagement of the bank by the governors hence calling on them to resign.

In order to enforce their calls for resignation of the governors, the minority has planned to picket at the premise of the Bank of Ghana.

Commenting on the claims of the minority, the former deputy general secretary of NPP confessed that he has read the entire claims of the minority and justaposed them with the response of the governor. The private legal practitioner claims after his analysis from the two sides, it will be very disingenious for any level-minded person to outrightly rubbish the claims of the NDC.

According to Nana Obiri Boahen, the NDC has raised very pertinent and important issues which require dispassionate discussion in the interest of the state and not political parties.

Nana Obiri Boahen who was speaking on Accra-based Okay FM on Thursday note that, “I am a type of person who wants my life in such a way that I will prefer to stay in poverty and be able to say my mind than to get rich and be forced to say things against my conscience. For instance, let’s be very honest with the picketing of the NDC Minority at the Bank of Ghana.”

“It is only for security implications that I may want them not to come there but if you are a level-minded person you just don’t rubbish it just because you are a member of NPP and must defend the party at all cost. I have read the press of the NDC and also read the press of the governor of BoG, as a lawyer, the NDC has raised very pertinent and very serious issues. With this do you expect somebody to come and direct me to go and rubbish the claims of the NDC? I will say my mind,” he stressed.
