Chris Hughton’s dismissal was ‘long overdue’ – Gifty Oware Mensah

Chairperson of the Black Queens Management Committee, Gifty Oware Mensah says the Ghana Football Association (GFA) delayed in sacking Chris Hughton as the head coach of the Black Stars.

She described the decision as “long overdue”.

Ghana earned just two points from their three Group B matches, and their slim hopes of progressing as one of the four best third-placed teams were extinguished on Tuesday with Mauritania’s shock victory over Algeria in Bouaké.

Following the disastrous campaign, Chris Hughton was sacked by the Ghana Football Association.

“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect,” the GFA said in a statement.

Speaking to Gideon Okyere Anim popularly called Gattuso on Original 91.9 FM, Gifty Oware Mensah, who is also the owner and bankroller of Berry Ladies Football Club agreed with the sacking of the coach and said it was time overdue:

”The coach should have been sacked right after the Ghana vs Mexico friendlies,’’ she said.

Among the notable names in the bid to succeed Chris Hughton are Goran Stefanović and Herve Renard.

The Ghanaian football community awaits the Ghana FA’s decision on the new head coach.
