Ghana records 3,340 accidents in first quarter of 2023

Road crash statistics collected by the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) for the first quarter of 2023.

This is a decrease in road accidents compared to the same time in 2022.

According to the statistics, 3,340 instances were documented between January and March 2023, a 15.06% decrease over the same period in 2022.

The Greater Accra Region had the most recorded crashes (1,243) among the 16 regions, while the Oti Region had the fewest (15).

Since the year 2023 began, 544 people have been killed in various traffic accidents across the country.

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) characterized the decrease in recorded road crashes as a positive sign for the country.
