NDC must not be complacent – Alex Segbefia

A leading member of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alex Segbefia, has cautioned party faithful not to be carried away by the frictions arising in the build-up to the NPP presidential elections and assume the 2024 elections is a done deal.

Contributing to the discussion on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana hosted by Dr. Randy Abbey on Wednesday morning, the former Health Minister under the Mahama-led government shared his views on the effects of personal attacks and likely fallouts of members after the New Patriotic Party presidential primaries, scheduled for November 4.

“if you do your primaries too early, you can reduce your effective numbers in parliament,” he said.

The former minister indicated that the NDC was saved from such disturbances because the MPs requested the primaries themselves with an assurance of not deserting the party in spite of the outcomes.

“People feared that if we go for primaries, how then do we deal with the people but the difference in our case is that the MPS are the ones who asked for the primaries,” he said.

Having the elections on the scheduled date can “affect the performance and workings of the government so they have the headache.”

Taking everything into account, Alex Segbefia has cautioned the NDC not to glee for long.

“No complacency NDC, keep your eye on the ball we have our plan, let’s stick to it and don’t deviate regardless of what is happening,” he reiterated.

On the side, Eric Twum, the government’s spokesperson continues to entreat NPP aspirants to exhibit discipline and comportment in the course of their campaign.
