“Coups Are Not Durable Solutions To Africa’s Problems” – Palgrave Boakye-Danquah

Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the Government’s spokesperson on Governance and Security, has pleaded with the international community to make it abundantly plain to coup plotters that coups have never been and would never be effective ways to address Africa’s political, economic, and security problems.

He argued that all military coups must be rejected by the members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Palgrave Boakye-Danquah pleaded with the international community to make it abundantly plain to coup plotters that coups have never been, and will never be, lasting solutions to Africa’s political, economic, and security concerns. He also emphasized the need to put an end to insecurity in West Africa.

“We must to unite as a generation to confront the coup threat and ensure the peace and stability that are necessary for our regions’ rapid economic development, which is the surest means of eradicating poverty in our time. In the same vein, we must reaffirm our commitment to democratic governance in the ECOWAS region and reject any unconstitutional changes of government,”Palgrave Boakye-Danquah told Accra-based Metro TV.

“We have witnessed the transition of power from one leading political party to another through the ballot box on three (3) occasions throughout this time, all with maintaining peace and stability and without endangering the state’s foundations. In this time, the Ghanaian people have shown how deeply they value the values of democratic accountability, respect for individual freedoms, human rights, and the rule of law. Additionally, it has contributed to more or less systematic economic growth and has increased our self-confidence.

His responses come after men wearing military fatigues claimed to have seized power in Niger hours after President Mohamed Bazoum was purportedly overthrown by members of the presidential guard on July 26, 2023.

According to him, there is a need for the security services in every country to be efficient and professional.
