Government is quick to use COVID 19 as an excuse for mismanagement – Alex Segbefia

Former Health Minister, Alex Segbefia has challenged the government on their constant use of COVID-19 Pandemic as an excuse on issues relating to their management of the economy.

Per the former health minister’s analysis, “They are always quick to use Covid but they don’t allow others to use it.”

He made reference to James Gyakye Quayson’s trial saying, “why are we in court with Gyakye Qyason? He too had Covid as a reason why he didn’t get his certificate, even though we say he got it in time. That one you (the Gov’t) can’t see it, but you are mentioning Covid again.”

“The whole country’s economy is because of Covid, Russia and Ukraine.
That, we should forgive and take into account but here again its being mentioned as slowing down processes, so why don’t we use it across board?” he quizzed on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana with Randy Abbey

The Minority in Parliament criticized the government for paying $2 million to Africa Investor Holdings Limited for the Accra Sky Train Project in 2019 without approval

However, Joe Ghartey, the Former Minister of Railways Development, refuted the claims, stating that the payment was made by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, not his ministry. He explained that due to Covid lockdowns in South Africa and Ghana the project could not be realized.
